Diet is considered an important first line therapy for diabetes management and a key modifiable risk factor for diabetes prevention. While single food and nutrient approaches have been widely researched, particularly carbohydrate restriction, the role of diet quality over diet quantity has yet to be fully elucidated. This talk will provide an overview of evidence for the role of diet in type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes, with a particular focus on overall diet quality. Research on ultra-processed foods and diabetes will also be presented.
